Event Description: The second annual Groundhog Open is coming to downtown Fort Wayne on February 7th, 2013. The Fort Wayne Downtown Improvement District and the Fort Wayne/Allen County Economic Development Alliance are jointly sponsoring this indoor golf tournament to benefit downtown beautification efforts.

The Groundhog Open will be played on a beautiful indoor 18-hole championship putting course laid out between the Grand Wayne Convention Center, the Embassy Theatre/Indiana Hotel, the Hilton Hotel, and the Courtyard by Marriott.

The Groundhog Open will feature four flights of golfers: at 8:30am, 11:00am, 1:30pm, and 4:00pm. Closing ceremonies, prizes and the after-party will take place upon completion of the final flight of golf at the Courtyard by Marriott. A light lunch, snacks, a “halfway house” and a cash bar will be available to players.

This unique event will raise funds towards the expansion and maintenance of the year-round flower planter program. The planters were originally established by the City as part of the 2009-2010 renovation of Calhoun Street, and are maintained by the Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation Department, with support of the Downtown Improvement District. The extraordinary popularity off the floral streetscapes with downtown residents, employees and visitors has lead to the requests for expansion of the planter program.
